WHAT ADVOCACY MEANS TO ME |
To me, advocacy is the act of turning care into action. It’s seeing injustice and choosing to respond—with intention, creativity, and urgency. Advocacy is not just protest signs or headlines—it’s the everyday work of making voices heard, shifting narratives, and imagining better futures.
As a designer, I believe advocacy begins with empathy and results in clarity. My role is to translate complex issues into powerful visuals that not only educate, but energize. Whether it’s a logo for a grassroots cause or a billboard for public awareness, advocacy-driven design demands responsibility. Every font choice, layout, and color palette carries meaning—it must uplift, not obscure.
In a world oversaturated with noise, advocacy means designing with focus. It means fighting for something bigger than yourself and knowing that good design doesn’t just look good—it does good.
THE STORY |
A very personal journey lies at the core of Balance. My great-grandmother became a beacon of light in my life after my grandmother passed away. She overcame tremendous obstacles despite her strength and wisdom, including recovering from a stroke that left her paralyzed and unable to speak. She was given medical attention, but she was never given access to therapy that would have allowed her to process her feelings and feel fully heard. Her experience exposed a devastating reality: when people need mental health support the most, it’s not always available. We think everyone should be able to talk to someone at any time or place.
